R. Bruce Laing

For over 30 years I have helped clients create and change their estate plans. Besides legal skills, I bring two things to the table: First, I am a good listener. Second, I can explain complex things in plain English. Because my clients feel “heard and understood”, they actively participate in creation of their estate plans.

For many years I practiced both Family Law and Estate Planning Law. I am experienced with cross-over issues in these two very personal areas of law. I also know about real property, business entities and contracts. Before my law school training and hands-on experience, I learned techniques for handling complex issues and contracts in the U.S. Navy as a contracting officer in its Nuclear Submarine Construction program. I learned Mediation at Pepperdine University. I have General Partner experience in real property and R & D limited partnerships.  The point is, because of my global experience, I often find solutions overlooked by more narrowly focused attorneys.

Most of my clients are referrals from prior clients or from Financial Planners or other professionals I have worked with. Although I have represented high profile, wealthy clients, including judicial officials, entertainment industry figures, an Olympic gold medal winner and a Lottery winner, most of my clients are regular members of our local communities. That said, in my experience, each client is unique with unique concerns. I focus on listening to each client to help them create an estate plan that fits.

But, no attorney can know everything. Through the years, I have successfully worked with independent Consulting Attorneys* when client interests require. This coordination of representation has been beneficial to my clients over the years. Consulting Attorneys are all rated “AV” and Pre-eminent by Martindale-Hubble.

*Consulting Attorneys consult with Laing Law Office and its clients on select matters. They are separately retained. While overall legal work is coordinated, they are independent counsel. They are not partners employees or otherwise affiliated with Laing Law Office.
